We believe every player develops at their own pace. Our focus is on teaching the fundamentals, building confidence, encouraging teamwork, and creating a positive environment where every athlete can improve and enjoy the game.

League Rules

Rules & Policies

These rules are designed to ensure a safe, organized, and competitive environment for all players, coaches, and families.

01 League Divisions

Girls

  • Grades 3–4 (Maximum age: 11)
  • Grades 5–6 (Maximum age: 13)
  • Grades 7–8 (Maximum age: 15)

Boys

  • Grade 3 (Maximum age: 10)
  • Grade 4 (Maximum age: 11)
  • Grade 5 (Maximum age: 12)
  • Grade 6 (Maximum age: 13)
  • Grades 7–8 (Maximum age: 15)

02 Age Eligibility

  • Players may not exceed the maximum age for their division before September 1 of the current season.
  • Players may not compete below their current grade level unless approved by the League Executive Committee.

03 Team Rosters

  • Maximum of 15 players per team.
  • Final rosters must be submitted before each team's second game.
  • Rosters must include: player name, jersey number, grade, and date of birth.
  • Birth certificates and report cards are required before Game 2.
  • Players may only appear on one roster.

04 Call-Up Policy

  • Players may only be called up if a team has six or fewer players available.
  • Teams with seven or more available players may not use call-ups.
  • No call-ups are permitted during playoffs.

05 League Insurance

Each organization must provide proof of $1,000,000 General Liability Insurance. The Camden County Basketball League must be listed as an additional insured before league play begins.

06 Season Format

  • 10–12 regular season games
  • Playoffs for qualifying teams
  • Playoff qualification is based on league standings

Tiebreakers

  • Head-to-head
  • Points allowed
  • Coin flip

07 Game Rules

Game Length

  • Four 8-minute quarters
  • Stopped clock on all whistles

Overtime

  • 3-minute overtime periods
  • Maximum of two overtimes during regular season
  • If still tied after two overtimes: regular season games end in a tie; playoff games continue until a winner is determined

Timeouts

  • Four timeouts per game
  • One timeout per overtime
  • Unused timeouts do not carry over

Fouls

  • Players foul out after 5 personal fouls
  • Second technical foul results in ejection
  • Ejected players/coaches receive an automatic one-game suspension
  • Second ejection during the season results in suspension for the remainder of the season

08 Equipment

Basket Height

10-foot baskets for all divisions.

Basketball Size

28.5 basketball for all divisions except Grades 7–8.

Free Throws

  • Grades 3–4 may shoot with heels touching the foul line.
  • All other divisions shoot from the regulation 15-foot line.

09 Defensive Rules

Grades 3–4

  • Half-court defense only
  • Defender must allow the ball handler to cross half court
  • Pressing only during the final 30 seconds of the 4th quarter and the final 30 seconds of overtime

Grades 5–6

Pressing permitted only during the final minute of each half.

Grades 7–8

Full-court pressing permitted throughout the game.

10 Three-Point Line

Three-point shots are allowed in every division.

11 Lane Violations

  • Grades 3–4: Five-second lane rule
  • Grades 5–8: Standard three-second lane rule

12 Bonus

Beginning with the 5th team foul each quarter, opponents receive two free throws.

13 Home Team Responsibilities

The home team must provide:

  • Game clock
  • Scoreboard
  • Scorebook
  • Scorekeeper
  • Timekeeper
  • Game ball

14 Scheduling

  • Schedule changes require 72 hours notice
  • Emergency cancellations must be communicated immediately
  • Teams requesting postponements are responsible for arranging makeup games

15 Forfeits

Teams that fail to appear for scheduled games will:

  • Receive a forfeit loss
  • Be responsible for referee fees if officials arrive
  • Be removed from the league after two forfeits

16 Referee Fees

  • Two certified referees will officiate every game.
  • Cost: $55 per team
  • Payment is due before the game begins.

17 Playoffs

  • Players must participate in at least 50% of regular season games to qualify, unless excused due to injury.
  • Teams must complete at least 80% of their scheduled games to qualify for playoffs.
  • Higher seeds host playoff games.

18 Fan & Coach Code of Conduct

The Camden County Basketball League is committed to providing a positive environment for players, coaches, officials, and families.

Fan Ejections

  • Immediate removal from all CCBL events for the remainder of the season
  • $100 fine assessed to the team
  • Fine must be paid before the team may continue league play

Coach & Player Ejections

  • Automatic one-game suspension
  • Second ejection results in suspension for the remainder of the season

Ejection Reports

Officials and home teams must submit an ejection report within 24 hours.
